This summer, martial artists from across New England will head to Greenfield for a full day of competition, community, and challenge at the Whistlekick Summer Challenge.
Taking place on July 18, 2026, the Summer Challenge is part of the Whistlekick Martial Arts League and is designed for competitors of all styles, ages, and ranks. Whether you’re stepping onto the tournament floor for the very first time or you’ve spent years competing, this event is built to create a memorable experience from the opening ceremonies to the final divisions of the day.
But this isn’t just another tournament.
The Summer Challenge adds a little extra energy to the traditional martial arts competition format.
Alongside standard divisions like forms, weapons forms, and point sparring, competitors can choose one special bonus division designed to bring something different to the day. Depending on your style and personality, you can test yourself in the Power Breaking Gauntlet, jump into the fast-paced action of Flag Sparring, or compete with teammates in Synchronized Forms.
The goal is simple: challenge yourself, try something new, and have a great day doing it.
A Tournament That Balances Fun and Organization
One of the biggest things competitors and families look for in a tournament is balance.
People want the excitement and energy that comes with competition, but they also want a tournament that runs smoothly, communicates clearly, and respects everyone’s time.
That’s a major focus of the Whistlekick Summer Challenge.
The event is being built around efficient operation, fair competition, experienced staff, and a clearly published ruleset. From the moment doors open in the morning to the final awards handed out that evening, the focus is on creating a tournament environment that feels exciting without feeling chaotic.
Whether you’re competing, coaching, refereeing, supporting a student, or simply watching from the stands, the goal is to make the experience positive and memorable.
More Than Standard Divisions
The Summer Challenge includes the traditional divisions competitors expect:
- Forms
- Weapons Forms
- Point Sparring
But the bonus divisions are where the event starts to develop its own personality.
Power Breaking Gauntlet
This division is designed as a survival-style challenge using progressively harder rebreakable boards. Competitors continue advancing as long as they complete each break. Miss the break, and you’re eliminated.
It’s part skill, part strategy, part nerve.
Flag Sparring
Flag Sparring follows the Whistlekick Open Tournament Ruleset and offers a fast-moving alternative competition format that rewards movement, timing, and awareness.
Synchronized Forms
Synchronized Forms allows teams of three competitors to perform an empty-hand form together while being judged not only on traditional forms criteria, but also on synchronization and teamwork.
It’s a division that rewards preparation, rhythm, and precision.
Grand Championships Return
For competitors looking to test themselves at a higher level, the Summer Challenge will also feature four Grand Championships:
- Youth Black Belt Forms & Weapons
- Adult Black Belt Forms & Weapons
- Youth Underbelt Forms & Weapons
- Adult Underbelt Forms & Weapons
These divisions bring together top performers from earlier forms and weapons competitions to determine overall grand champions for the event.
