2015 Summer Spectacular Results

We were in Maine for a second weekend in a row, this time in Saco, Maine for the 9th Annual Summer Spectacular hosted by Shihan Andy Campbell and Dragon Fire Martial Arts. The event was held at XL Sports World, which is a great facility. The space was very open with plenty of room for spectators. The event hosted a number of vendors other than us, including a tattoo artist that was airbrushing onto the event awards - custom tee shirts! We saw the shirts last year and it's a great alternative to trophies and medals.  Everyone seemed to love them.

The Pushup Challenge wasn't as busy as the weekend before, but it did go well. You can see the results here and the overall standings here. It's been a lot of fun kicking the Pushup Challenge into the next gear.

If you know Shihan Andy at all, you know that he's a big fan of superheroes. This love showed up in a few places at the event, but this one in particular blew me away. People were taking pictures left and right with these three, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a shot with them.

The event went well, but the day was long due to the sheer number of competitors and divisions. Everyone helped out where they could and I even got tapped to help referee the continuous sparring. It's been a long time since I was a judge at an event!

This is a fun event and there's a lot of financial support coming out of it that goes to benefit cancer-related organizations.

The night before there was even a free continuous-sparring seminar put on by Mr. Andrew Johnson with help from Master Huzon Alexander. I was fortunate to attend and picked up some good stuff. Both of these gentleman know their sparring! It seemed that the seminar increased the participation in the continuous sparring divisions, which were a lot of fun to watch.
