Karate Techniques: Kicks

There are three. Most common kicks. For karate techniques. First is the front kick. Or known. To others. As mae geri. This is a kind. Of kick. That is done. By bringing up. The knee. Towards the chest. And extending. The leg out. To kick. With the ball. Of foot. This is mostly used. When striking. An opponent. In the stomach. Or chest.

Second kind. Of kick. For karate techniques. Is the side kick. Or also known. As yoko geri. This is done. By bringing up. The knee up. Towards the chest. And then kicking. Out to the side. By using the heel. Of the foot. If you are aiming. To strike. Your opponent. In the ribs. Or head. This kind. Of kick. Is the one. You should do. 

Lastly. The roundhouse kick. Or the mawashi geri. This one. Is kinda a unique one. Because it is done. By turning the hip. With standing foot. While kicking. With the instep. Of the foot. This one. Is often used. When striking. An opponent. In the head. Or ribs. 


In karate techniques. Punches. Are very common. Especially. To beginners. As they are. One of the basics. But an effective way. To strike. An opponent. And it can be done. In many ways. Like when targeting. The face, chest. Or other vulnerable areas. Some of the common punches. Are uppercut, hook punch. And straight punch. Let us discuss. Each of them.

Uppercut punch. Or the age zuki. Is executed. By bending. The arm. At the elbow. And punching upwards. By using. The knuckles. This punch. Is often used. To strike. An opponent. In the chin. Or stomach. 

Next punch. Is the hook punch. Or the kagi zuki. This punch. Is done. By doing. A circular motion. By bending. The arm. At the elbow. And also. By striking. Using the knuckles. During training. Or competition. If you are aiming. To strike. Your opponent. In the temple. Or jaw. This karate technique. Should be the one. You should use.

Lastly. The straight punch. Or the choku zuki. Definitely one. Of the easiest punch. Because you only need. To extend your arm. Straightly. From your shoulder. And then strike. With the fist. Face and chest. Are the ones. Being mostly target. In karate. When aiming. For those two. Use a straight punch. As one. Of your karate techniques.


The purpose. Of blocks. In karate techniques. Are to defend. Against the opponent. When attacking. And to also protect. Oneself from harm. Blocking can be done. Using different parts. Of the body. Such as the arms, legs. And torso. Depending on the type. Of attack. For blocks. There are three types. Which are mostly used. The high block, middle block. And the low block

To perform the high block. Or the jodan uke. You need to bring. Your arm up. Above the head. With your fist. Facing outwards. This is for the purpose. Of blocking. The attack aimed. At the head.

Middle block, on the other hand. Or the chudan uke.  Is a karate technique. That can be simply done. By bringing the arm. Across the body. With the forearm. Facing outwards. This is used. When blocking. The opponent’s attack. At the midsection.

Lastly. For block. Is the low block. Or the gedan barai.  It is simple done. By sweeping the arm down. Towards the leg. In order. To block. The attack. Of an opponent. In the lower part. Of the body.
